On the trail of the lonesome pine

A circular walk from Codiponte via Fazzano

A beautiful circular walk on good paths and tracks throughout. The walk starts and finishes with nature-rich woodland and offers spectacular mountain views in all directions during the middle section, which is reached by a steep ascent that passes il Castello d’Aquila (Eagle Castle) and tops out near the lone pine that gives this walk its name. After passing through the picturesque little village of Fazzano the rest of the walk is all downhill.

One of the many benefits of being retired is that I get to spend so much more time in the great outdoors, not only as a photographer but in exercising one of my other great passions — hill walking. This is a particularly good fit when one’s photography centres around nature and the landscape. There can be few better places to do that than here in the beautiful mountains of Tuscany.
