To the border and back

Regnano circular via Scavi di Tea

Starting and finishing in Regnano Villa, this medium length walk climbs through locally important chestnut forest to reach part of the watershed that separates the Aulella and Serchio river basins. The ridge is also the border between la Lunigiana and la Garfagnana, providing excellent views down the valleys of both. On reaching the road that crests the ridge you will find a picnic area to your right. An information board gives details of a nearby archeological site (Scavi di Tea) that can be visited by following the short way-signed path into the forest. The route back follows a wide foresters’ track that winds and zigzags its way down to Regnano Villa.

Nigel Fawcett

One of the many benefits of being retired is that I get to spend so much more time in the great outdoors, not only as a photographer but in exercising one of my other great passions — hill walking. This is a particularly good fit when one’s photography centres around nature and the landscape. There can be few better places to do that than here in the beautiful mountains of Tuscany.
