The medieval bridge in the woods

A circular walk from Castiglioncello via Vedriano and Vigneta

Using a delightful assortment of mule tracks, field paths, and quiet lanes, this walk links together several small villages and hamlets. The route starts and finishes in the perfectly perched hilltop settlement of Castiglioncello. From there you will visit Padula, Vedriano, Palazzo Groppolo, Pastena and, after crossing the idyllic medieval bridge in the woods, Vigneta. Like many of our walks, this one will take you along part of the Via del Volto Santo.

One of the many benefits of being retired is that I get to spend so much more time in the great outdoors, not only as a photographer but in exercising one of my other great passions — hill walking. This is a particularly good fit when one’s photography centres around nature and the landscape. There can be few better places to do that than here in the beautiful mountains of Tuscany.
