Beautiful images of special places
On this page, you will find a selection of galleries, each dedicated to a place that we have visited and that has become special to us. Hopefully, I have captured some of the qualities that make such places special in my images.
Plockton is located in a beautifully sheltered position on Loch Carron on the West coast of the Highlands of Scotland. It’s stunning position, quaint cottages and mild climate have made it both a popular tourist destination and a desirable film & television location — for example, ‘The Wicker Man’ for film and ‘Hamish Macbeth’ for television.
Most tourists visit Tuscany for its culture, wine, food and instantly recognisable landscape, but it also has a fabulous coastline. One of our favourite stretches is the Gulf of Baratti, with its mile after mile of soft sand on beaches that are fringed with umbrella pines. Here, you will find more campsites than hotels and plenty of both Roman and Etruscan sites of antiquity.
The Ligurian coast is not short of pretty fishing villages that have been turned into marinas for the rich and famous but top place in any list must go to Portofino — Italy’s St Tropez. Around the harbour can be found shops from some of the top fashion houses but it doesn’t take long to rise above the throngs where you can explore the leafy lanes up to the castle, church and promontory, where you can get a welcome drink or gelato.
