“My soul was on fire, as I entered the wood; By the old rusty gate, which silently stood; Absorbing history, making no choice; Passing no judgement, adding no voice”
“The rough ancient path, veined with roots; To test my step, and scuff my boots; Unhurriedly followed the line of the brook; But this was not the path I took …”
Nigel Fawcett, 2007
Top of the list
Our first and most important job is to finish the task of documenting and photographing all of our existing walks. We started that process at the beginning of 2020 but had to suspend everything due to the coronavirus lockdown measures. The severe restrictions that were previously in place have now been lifted but, unfortunately, we are now in the hottest part of summer, which is not the best time of year for walking or photography. Consequently, we will restart the work in September when the temperature drops — always supposing there isn’t a sudden seasonal spike in Covid-19 cases, here in Italy.
Meanwhile
Despite the heat, we haven’t been resting on our laurels. Instead, we’ve been putting the slightly cooler conditions of evening to good use by exploring a whole series of new tracks and paths in the area around the village of Collechia and will be adding several new walks this autumn. These walks will make it possible to walk the whole of the Fivizzano and Casola-in-Lunigiana sections of the Via del Volto Santo in bite-size chunks while enjoying our many circular walks.
Beyond that
Longer term, we still have several walks in the Fivizzano and Casola-in-Lunigiana boroughs to documents but, we will also start adding walks that are in the borough of Aulla.
